First African Training course in Neurosurgery, May 2025
The EANS Foundation is proud to actively support educational initiatives in the field of neurosurgery, helping to build stronger, more resilient healthcare systems around the world.
From 18-22 of May 2025, we supported financially and administratively First African Training Course in Neurosurgery, which took place in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, course Director – Ondra Petr, with local hosting at the Muhimbili Orthopaedic & Neurosurgery Institute.
For the first time, 94 young colleagues – the rising generation of neurosurgeons from across Africa – came together and were trained under the dedicated mentorship of 26 faculty members: 13 African experts and 13 respected European teachers in the field of neurosurgery.
The main focus of the course was «Vascular Neurosurgery & Skull Base» – the cornerstone for surgical innovation in Africa, with a curriculum democratically shaped by African & European neurosurgical leaders and endorsed by all continental societies.
As a result, Senior and junior neurosurgeons stood together – building bridges, overcoming borders, forging lifelong friendships, partnerships, and collaborations on a new continent.
Together, we are shaping the future of neurosurgery.
