We are delighted to announce the recipient of the 2026 Catherine Wurster Neurosurgical Scholarship, awarded by The Catherine Wurster Family and The EANS Foundation.
Following a careful review of 15 outstanding applications from talented young neurosurgeons around the world, the €20,000 scholarship has been awarded to Dr. Grace Djonde (CHU Yopougon, Université Félix Houphouët-Boigny, Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire).
Dr. Djonde was selected for her inspiring project, NREP-Kids (Neurotrauma Registry and Evidence-Based Prevention – Kids), which aims to establish a pediatric neurotrauma registry at CHU Yopougon and lay the foundation for evidence-based pediatric neurotrauma care in Côte d’Ivoire.
The selection committee was impressed by the project’s vision, impact, and sustainability. It addresses a critical unmet and lays the base for paediatric neurotrauma care in the region, where such expertise is urgently needed. It is an initiative capable of transforming clinical practice and improving outcomes for countless children and their families.
We believe that such a project is a truly fitting tribute to Dr. Wurster’s memory and a powerful continuation of ideals she inspired.
Congratulations, Dr. Djonde!
